About me

I am an endocrinologist, and what I care most about is that patients leave understanding their own condition. Clinical rigour matters, but so does having the time to explain what a diagnosis actually means — which is why appointments here are not ten minutes long.

Close to half my practice is thyroid: hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves' disease and, above all, nodules. It is the area I trained in at the Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid and at Emory University, and the one I continue to see in its most complex form at Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital.

Getting your peace of mind back starts with understanding your own body. What I aim to give you here is the clarity and the time to heal in balance — with science, and with empathy.

Thyroid: the whole evaluation in a single appointment

The usual route for a thyroid nodule is three appointments with three different people: the endocrinologist who orders the ultrasound, the radiologist who performs it, and a further appointment for the biopsy. Here I perform the thyroid ultrasound and the fine-needle aspiration myself, in the same room, with your history in front of me.

• Thyroid ultrasound during the consultation

  Performed in the same appointment. The person examining the nodule is the person who knows your case and who will decide the next step, so the images are read alongside your labs and your symptoms rather than in isolation.

• Fine-needle aspiration biopsy

  When a nodule meets the criteria for sampling, I perform the biopsy without referring you elsewhere. It is the procedure that separates a benign nodule — the great majority — from the few that need surgery, and shortening the wait for that answer is a large part of the relief.

• Thyroid-specific training

  Thyroid fellowships at Hospital Clínico San Carlos in Madrid and at Emory University in the United States, alongside sustained experience with the complex cases referred to Arzobispo Loayza National Hospital.
